That was a big win over an 8-2 St. Olaf. A win over an extremely good Hamline team this weekend could be a stepping stone to the second half.
John Madden is a beast. And how about Paulson, eh?
That is all.

Let me preface this next post with this statement: I saw Ty Conklin play for the Green Bay Gamblers in about 10 games back in 2001 or 2002 and at that time my opinion of him was he was average at best and probably wouldn’t go anywhere. Now he starts for the Detroit Red Wings.
So, by no means am I any sort of expert on goaltending or what a good goaltender actually looks like. That being said, I think Paulson getting a few starts in net for Point is a very good thing. From what I’ve seen this season, Speer is not as quick as he was last year, I don’t know if he went to some goalie camp and that screwed him up or what? But he’s very aggressive to shut down the first shot, and that leaves a lot of the net open on a rebound and he hasn’t been able to get back in time to stop the second shot on numerous occasions. I don’t know if that’s a result of style change or a loss of speed compared to last season?
Paulson is a solid goaltender who may not have the athletic abilities of Speer, but he doesn’t stray too far from the crease making him always in a decent position for the second shot.
I don’t have an issue with either one, nor do I favor either one. This is just what I’m seeing.
Speer also hasn’t shut down the breakaways as he did last season. I don’t know if this is a chance thing or what?
Any “lurkers” with any knowledge of goalie mechanics that could add some insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Ralph was NCHA Player of the Week last week! Nice.
UW-Stevens Point assist leader Ralph named men's player of the week St. Paul, Minn. (January 7, 2008) – Senior defenceman Jonathan Ralph (Chester, NJ / Bowling Green, CCHA) of UW-Stevens Point has been named player of the week for his efforts in two Pointer victories last weekend. Ralph notched five points in helping UWSP improve its record to 10-5-0 on the season.
Ralph has proven to be one of the league’s top set up men, and on Friday night he assisted on three Pointer goals. The team cruised to a 13-1 win over Minnesota-Crookston, the largest margin of victory for UW Stevens Point since 1991-92.
On Saturday Ralph scored his first goal of the season with just 24 seconds left in the second period. The goal gave the Pointers a 2-1 lead at the time. Ralph also assisted on an empty net goal late in the third that sealed the 4-2 victory over Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe St. Olaf.
Other player of the week nominees: Mike Kneeland, Lake Forest – 2 goals, 5 assists in series against Concordia-Wis. A.J. Gale, St. Norbert – Hat trick, assist at Milwaukee School of Engineering Aaron Johnson, UW-Eau Claire – 11 saves in win vs. MN-Crookston

WTF?
2-1 great win over SNC followed by a 4-3 loss to a subpar River Falls team. Is this team for real or not? Better figure it out fast.
Or maybe they should try to sandbag it and line themselves up with Superior or CSS for the playoffs because honestly Stout on the road hasn't worked and who wants to go to the Cornerstone for a two game playoff series?
Just Win. Please.

Solid win against Scholastica.
Even more solid, 3 penalties for 6 minutes, with one being an end of game matching call. Nice.
