Well, it took awhile, but the first official Pointer recruits have been listed. The Pointers only technically have one spot to fill as no one graduated but one player won't be back. Word is there are 4-5 recruits in the pipeline, two of whom we now know. Follmer is Junior B (MnJHL) and Wolfe played in the MJAHL (Maritime Provincial Jr. A) and the AJHL (Eastern US Tier III Jr. A). Supposedly there are a couple of pretty solid guys coming in from the NAHL as well (though I won't give more details as of now). Along with him is: G, Seth Wolfe, Charlottetown Jr. A Abbies (MJAHL) 0-2-0, 6.72 GAA, .808 save % He also played the 2006-07 season with the Laconia Leafs of the AJHL, posting a 2.59 GAA and a .913 save % in 16 games. ------ Anyone have any thoughts or more info to share as far as recruits go? Aside from that, anyone got anything to say about....anything?

You can figure out who isn't coming back by looking at who is registered for fall classes and who isn't. As far as Wolfe's stats, he only played a couple games and that team wasn't very good. His numbers for Laconia are respectable so who knows. It's always tough to tell. Hell, Bryn Davies had good numbers in a good junior league and he couldn't stop a beach ball with a canoe paddle.

Most of us cant look up who registered? Point has some scoring punch with there leading scorers calleja, lee, beckfeld, fish, manthey, and some other who hopefully step up. guys like calleja and lee have been the top scorers there freshmen and sophmore year so look for even bigger things as juniors. Beckfeld being a senior should just add to the fire along with fish and manthey.
I look for big things from this team with speers in net.
If they can get another couple guys to step up other then the usual suspects there gona be really tough.

He might be talking about Lee. There have been some rumors about him not coming back to school.

I don't know about you guys, but if the Pointers go 4-21 with all four wins coming over UW-Superior, and Tim Manthey writes his name at center ice with Ryan Kuntz' blood...I shall consider the season a smashing success.

Meant to post this yesterday: www.stevenspointjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080818/SPJ02/808180546/1678&GID=DJYBOuSRDEs7sQ+QoBdOqr4rBCB/xKquOrMHFGt2RdE%3D"Pointers' recruits add strength to roster There are no life mysteries concerning the philosophy of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's hockey coach Wil Nichol on the recruiting trail. "I wanted us to get better," said Nichol, who enters his second season with a 14-9-4 record after doubling the win output from the previous season. "I promised the returning guys we would get better through recruiting." With the addition a six players in the 2008 recruiting class, Nichol feels he has taken another step toward upgrading the talent pool. Heading the list of recruits are a pair of Division I transfers -- raising the number of former Division I players he has brought in to six -- junior Josh Duncan, a defenseman, and sophomore forward Mike Sand. Sand joins the Pointers after helping Niagara University reach the NCAA Division I Tournament last season, while Duncan played for Quinnipiac. "I think they're the type of kids we want to bring into the program. They're winners and they come from winning stock," Nichol said. "I think Josh Duncan has the potential to be another (Pointers defenseman) Jonathan Ralph." Ralph was part of a recruiting class last year that was heavy on adding depth and skill on the blueline. This time around, Nichol focused on bringing in an influx of talent up front in hopes of becoming more potent in the scoring department. The class features several freshmen -- namely Luke Nesper, a former Northland Pines standout, and Harrison Niemann -- who should help the Pointers increase their average of 3.07 goals per game a year ago. "We felt we needed to improve our ability to put the puck in the net, so that was something we wanted to address as a staff," said Nichol. "Those guys have the ability to put up points and they're big." Nesper, who stands 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, led Alexandria of the North American Hockey League with 81 points on 26 goals and 55 assists in just 57 games last season. Niemann demonstrated a nice scoring touch and good hands at 6-1, 200 to finish with 57 points for Traverse City of the NAHL. Rounding out the class are forward/defenseman Jon Madden and goalie Seth Wolfe. "My job as the coach is to give us the best chance to win," Nichol said. "On paper, I think we're better than last year at this point, but in 11 years of coaching, you don't win games on paper." "
