After the first of the year a committee will be formed to investigate becoming a Division II athletic campus. This at the request of Chancellor Linda Bunnell.
Yeah, that'll be cheap.
Seriously, if Point goes DII, that'll pose serious issues for the hockey program.

This might be the most ludicrous thing I've heard in a while, for a lot of reasons.
Dear Linda Bunnell,
Forget DII, save yourself some money and bring a full-time assistant back to the hockey programs.

From a campus wide prospective, why go D-II and what does it mean for the Athletic Department? Also, what is the diffrence between D-II and III?

In short, athletic scholarships are in play in DII, though in a more limited capacity than in DI.
Considering hockey and basketball are the two showcase programs for UWSP and going DII would effectively cripple the hockey programs, this is going a whole lot of nowhere.
Never mind the fact that the travel distances would increase ludicrously. I think Parkside might be the only DII school in Wisconsin, and they don't have many sports. Otherwise you're talking Mankato, St. Cloud, North Dakota, Winona, etc (not sure what's in IL and IA). Good luck paying for that travel on top of the scholarship money. Aren't these the same people always bitching about never having any money? Let's increase costs! Great idea, dumbasses.
Bunnell is an idiot and this is a joke. Unless I'm so far off the reservation it's not even funny I can't see how this is possibly going to get past the examination stage.
As I said...going a whole lot of nowhere.

FYI, this plan is DOA. I don't expect we'll hear much, if anything, more about it.
