Besides, the Pointers look to have replaced chain smoking wide-based lazy slow skaters... So they are replacing you? I don't think I could get close to putting any holes into your thesis on lines this year. It's pretty much rock solid in my opinion, at least until the Pointer hit the ice. I'm really disappointed that I'm not going to be able to see any games this year. Sounds like they could have a pretty good year, if they live up to their potential. As for Bydal, two years ago, I had no clue how he was playing D-III hockey, but he's made real strides to make himself better, I'd like to see if he's done more work on the offseason. If you're right on Foster, Guay, and Conway, that's going to be one hell of a show. A true return of the DBR?

So they are replacing you? I don't skate with a wide base.

Upon further review I might be way off with my guess at line combos. Guess we'll find out Saturday...

I realize it's Northland.....
But good attendance - 1378......
The shots on goal - the unreal 112 to 20..
Good to see Frosh Goalie Wolfe out there stopping the puck...
Now that this game is out of the way, lets hope that things continue to be productive in practice and make the games go in our favor..

Good to see Frosh Goalie Wolfe out there stopping the puck... Jay... Wolfe didn't stop a single shot, and shots were 75-13.

Ok, enough yik yak...
I know everyone looks good in a 10-0 win, but any of our lurkers who were actually at the game have any insight?
I'll be at SJU this weekend and am quite interested to see how they look - especially on the big ice...

Ok, enough yik yak... I know everyone looks good in a 10-0 win, but any of our lurkers who were actually at the game have any insight? I'll be at SJU this weekend and am quite interested to see how they look - especially on the big ice... I'm no hockey guru by any means, nor am I one of the Rome clones, so I can't speak very well on the subject because I don't know what to look for, really. But here's my two cents: Early on, it didn't seem like Point was passing very well. Initially, their offense was lackluster because of it. Their penalty kill was decent and power play was great, but that may well be because the opponent wasn't all that strong. I look forward to seeing how Point fares this weekend, which I'll have to find out Monday morning because I'll be drinking with the rest of the punk rockers down in Florida. As for how the Rowdy Crowd showing was post-Caveman/Reverend, well, there wasn't much standing or yelling going on but when Point started scoring, the students got into it more. On a side note, I've got to find the words to the Winning team/Losing team chant. Hook me up.

Pointers are 3-0.
You guys (Jay, Wormser, Cave) keep up all this chatter. Speaking of slackers, why does Kelly read the board every day and never post?
I don't have a trailer hitch tied to me, people.

To good wins, considering the amount of time on the PK, and the fact that they were on the road.
I especially liked how they came back against SJU and once the johnnies tied it up, Point always found a way to get back ahead. Those are the types of games good teams win.
I know they won't be looking past St. Mary's, but I am. A win against St. Thomas would be great, the more momentum the better going into SNC to start the NCHA schedule.
Go Dogs!

I'm concerned about the amount of time spent playing on the Penalty kill, however the season is young and the team continues to win.... The taking of penalties does need to be addressed.
The offense seems adequate at this point in time, and I believe that as the season progresses and the team is able to coordinate more, we'll see more 4, 5, or 6 goals per game.
Not having seen this seasons team in person, I am going to offer that the defense pairings are working well and that Thomas Speer is continuing to stand tall in net.
I will thrilled to see UWSP beat St Mary's 5-0, 4-1, 7-2.... but agree with Wormser -- let's make it a point to beat UST...

As I've been out of the loop somewhat, I'm guessing that the Pointers are running into the same areas of emphasis that the Badger hockey team is currently struggling with. Lots of interference, holding (especially of the stick) and the like. I haven't spent any time looking through other games' box scores, but I'm guessing we're seeing a disproportionate amount of penalties on teams that are physically superior to their competition.
The refs at the D1 level have been instructed to call everything. I'm guessing that the D3 officials were told the same. Much like the NHL refs were told a couple years back. Things lightened up over time as players caught on and the officials dialed it back a bit.
However, if the early results are any indication, the special teams play for the Pointers will be well above par, and much improved over recent teams. Something that's needed to change for a while.

penaltys has been a huge problem and why no sucess in playoffs last year against stout. dont forget how bad of a problem it was last year, to the point of ridiculous. they had a 11 game unbeaten streak also, but in the end all the penaltys killed them. stout scored almost all there goals on power play. It needs to be addresed now because it wasnt last year.

Good game tonight against SJU
The penalties were down and we scored in special teams both PP & SHG and 1 even strength.
Looking at the UWSP box score, Craig Dakins went 5 w 0 l's on faceoffs.
Garrett Suter continues to lead the way in the penalty department, and Erstad showing some fire as well.
UWEC beat UST, we should do the same tomorrow.........
