There is definately a Wil with this team...Ice practice starts October 13th...I'm loking forward to catching some games this year. Maybe even hear the distant chants of the RC down in the corner....By the way I am no way an RC jr.

I've been meaning to... The cheapie membership for now, but seriously, if people like us don't join who will?

The cheapie membership for now, but seriously, if people like us don't join who will? Other than parents and a few die hards from the early 90's? No one... You'd think, with all the pics that Webb and others took over the last year, they could find a picture of a real game instead of practice...

They cannot afford the licensing fee from Webb..

They cannot afford the licensing fee from Webb.. There is no licensing fee. I e-mail those links to team captains all the time and tell them to use as they wish. I also get pissed when good pics can't be fit into my columns. Understandable, but you know me. Ideally the column would be 65,000 words with an adjunct 500 photo slideshow every week.

Take it for what it's worth, but I'm hearing some of the freshmen look outstanding and it's moved some of the "good seniors" down to the 3rd and 4th lines.
Quite frankly I don't care who plays where, but hopefully the Pointers can get a little more offense going this season. In the second half of the season (not counting playoffs) Point only scored more than two goals twice (in nine games). Once was in a 4-2 win at Lake Forest, the other in a 3-2 win over River Falls. Considering Point didn't allow more than two goals in any of those nine games...if they can score a bit more they are going to be awfully tough to deal with.

Good find,
I wonder what monkey this guy has typing this all for him....
Maybe they got someone on the payroll to write this garbage..
Seth Reda -- isn't he the one that resembles the Mountain Gorilla?
UWS Hockey -- the rebirth of the AWA Wrestling circuit..

We interrupt your programming... -------- In case someone wants to take a look at the Fighting Joe Baldarotta's of Cortland tonight...6pm our time: www.cortlandreddragons.com/news/2008/10/17/MHOC_1017085634.aspxI guess Baldy really cleaned house out there this year. I don't know how many seniors Cortland had last year but 17 guys did not return and he brought in 16 new guys. That's some turnover.. -------- ..now back to your regularly scheduled Pointer talk.

Alright, here goes with my take at line pairings. I'll see Point next weekend at SJU so I'll know how close I am then.
Forwards:
Stendahl-Beckfeld-Johnson
Reason: Because it works. Baldy had these guys together, Wil had these guys together...I see no reason it should change. Three hard working seniors who can also score. Good offensively, great defensively...so where's the problem? Nevermind the fact that when I don't wear my glasses the 39-29-26 always gets me confused, and it's always fun when I can't tell who is who - especially since Johnson is like Mini-Beckfeld.
Erstad-Niemann-Nesper
Reason: I don't know where else to put them other than with each other, but it makes sense. Let's face it, Erstad is a goal scorer, and based on Niemann and Nesper's junior stats they are solid in terms of distributing the puck. Also, last time we saw Erstad he was "rather" soft defensively and that may have changed, but Niemann and Nesper both had great +/- ratings in the NAHL and they werent on great teams, so I have to assume for now they are pretty solid defensively. Besides, the Pointers look to have replaced chain smoking wide-based lazy slow skaters with bigger and faster scorers who might actually care. Let the frosh wheel. I think these three work. One thing I don't know is who would center it, though I have to assume one of the three has experience there.
Fish-Law-Polaski
Reason: Fish and Law have been together since they were freshmen, but the clincher here is Big Tuna. You could tell last year he is still growing into his body, but he has a ton of raw talent (SNC recruited him, I think, so that says something). So pair the big young guy up with some skill and a couple of seniors who are extremely smart players who hustle. Fish and Law are both scrappy and can do a lot, but I think putting a talented banger with them will work well. Foster and Conway are also an options here but I'm saving them for later. I think Polaski has more offensive initiative than either while being almost as physical as either and almost as big as Foster so I'm putting him here for scoring reasons - nevermind his potential.
Well, that's three. Who does that leave?
Conway, Sand, Foster, Guay, Madden, Dakins, Beetham, Lally, Cankar
God that's a lot of forwards, though Madden plays F/D. The one thing I don't know is how good Sand and Madden are, though I have a hunch we may see Madden on D. I know Sand is a great character guy and he was at DI Niagara, so if he has a lot of skill he can blow all this up, but for now, I'm going with:
Conway-Foster-Guay
Reason: They can raise hell. This has to be one of the most annoying lines in the NCHA to play against. And unlike last year when the Pointers didn't have so much depth these guys can now function like a true 4th line. Again, raise hell. I'll admit I'm partial to Conway because of his PK abilities, so I really like to see him in there. Still has to cut down the stupid penalties, but he's made great progress. I think Foster needs to be in there somewhere...he keeps getting better and better. Consider him a giant version of AJ Degenhart...an unheralded senior grinder who helped UW to a title two years ago. The kid is a monster.
Guay fits in well with Conway and Foster, but I guess it comes down to whether it's going to be a true grind line or if a scorer could be inserted here. If Madden or Sand have great offensive skill I can handle putting one in for Guay, but for now I'm going to use these guys as a true lockdown defensive forward group that will annoy the shit out of people.
Defense:
Manthey-Suter
Reason: Were together all last year and will be again.
Ralph-Scarpone
Reason: Were together all last year and will be again. Note to Ralph - don't panic when the puck comes to you at the blue line. It's all good.
Ah yes, now who does that leave?
Bydal, Upton, Madden, Geelan, O'Brien. Pick two, eh?
No idea, but I bet you'll see 6-2 on Friday. I have no reasoning for that.
There, I tried...anyone have objections?
